What Is The Most Common Lemur?
There are various types of lemur species with some being more common. In 1994, there were only 60 lemur species documented. Since them, a few more species have been discovered and scientists expect to add approximately 5% more species. The most common species of lemur is the Lemur catta also known as the ring-tailed lemur. They are easily disguised by their long black and white ringed tail. Note that although Lemur catta are common, they have been listed as endangered. There are currently about 2000 to 2400 species left globally. This figure represents a 95% decrease since the year 2000 when their total population was last published.
Is It Illegal To Buy A Lemur?
The law varies from country to country and so the answer to this question is not universal. In some countries, it is illegal to buy, own or get a pet that is enlisted among the endangered species.
