These are one of the rarest mammals which were declared extinct in the wild in the year 2008. Till date this species is considered an endangered species. The black-footed ferret resembles the common ferret in color but it has a black mask across the eyes and brownish black markings on the feet and the tail’s tip. The males are larger than the females and they weigh kilogram or less. They live in prairie dog burrows and eat only prairie dogs. Black-footed ferrets are solitary animals except during their breeding season which is in March and April.
Is it Ideal to Adopt a Pet Ferret for A Child?
A ferret is a demanding pet for a child, in fact, it is not a recommended pet for a household with children younger than 7 years. Ferrets require careful adult supervision as it behaves differently from a cat or a dog. They need to be kept away from infants or babies. Ferrets, no matter how tame remain hunters and they cannot be trained to get along with birds, fish, rabbits and rodents; they can only be trained to get along with cats and dogs. Ferrets also need to be taught not to nip or bite, that is how you get a domesticated ferret not to be vicious. You have to find a way to establish boundaries and communicate them appropriately without hurting or making your ferret to mistrust you. Ferrets require affection, care and understanding.
